R+W’s many years of experience in the field of precision bellow couplings and the growing market demand for precision drives are the result of the development of a new type of coupling, also known as the lamellar coupling.

The SCL series is based on a LP backlash-free plate coupling. The lamellar couplings are made of special spring steel with increased tensile strength and flexibility. The hubs are made of aluminium.

The shaft-hub connection can be realized by means of:

  • clamping hubs
  • split clamping hubs
  • conical clamping hubs

The high-strength screws used to fix the plate joints transmit the torque through the frictional connection. This coupling is well suited for dynamic applications, frequent stop and start up cycles and reversing operation.

Main advantages:

  • greater misalignment compensation than e.g. bellow couplings
  • modular design to reduce time of preparing the coupling
  • high torsional stiffness
  • a small moment of inertia
  • blacklash-free execution
  • excellent balance

Plate couplings from the SCL range are designed to work with lower power drives. The transmitted torque range is from 25 Nm to 300 Nm.
