The R+W manufacturer’s backlash-free coupling consists of two hubs and an elastomer hub, which splits a insert. This design ensures damping of torsional vibration, thermal and electrical insulation and uninterrupted operation even after damage to the insert. In addition, the flexibility of the insert enables the compensation of installation errors of the combined shafts.

The elastomer insert is closely matched to the toothed spaces, which reduces the initial blacklash to zero. In addition, the clamping hubs eliminate any possible blacklash at the shaft connection. Couplings made in this way are used in precision drives of modern equipment requiring precision in transmission.

The ability to compensate for shaft deviations can be extended by using two elastomer inserts separated by a spacing insert. This procedure elongates the couplings and doubles its flexibility. The result is a so called double-cardan clutch.

Blacklash-free couplings are also available in a version compliant with the ATEX directive, confirmed by the manufacturer’s certificate. The elastomer insert in such version has graphite inclusions, which makes it a conductor for electrostatic charges.
