Archimedes-Folder-Plastics-2024-ENG.pdfIn the case of machine casings, polycarbonate (PC) is used as the basic material due to its mechanical values, in particular impact resistance. This parameter makes PC ideal for machine casings where operators or the material contained in the casings are likely to hit the casings. An additional advantage is the transparency of the material so we can observe what is happening on the protected stand.
The second transparent material we can use is polymethylene methacrylate (PMMA), popularly known as plexi. This material is very resistant to scratches, so it should be used for shields in the place where the ideal transparency is desired.
Composite materials such as aluminium, polyethylene, aluminium are also often used. This material has good impact strength and mechanical resistance, but is not transparent.
